Spores of the Downy Mildew Pathogens
INTRODUCTION
Spores of the downy mildew pathogens of lettuce and spinach
The graphs represent the number of spores of the downy mildew pathogens of lettuce (Bremia lactucae) and spinach (Peronospora effusa) detected in each of three valleys of California - Salinas, Coachella, and Imperial – in the period of August 23, 2021, to December 5, 2022. The number of spores were calculated based upon cyclone spore trapping, and multiplex quantitative PCR conducted by Amy Anchieta and Kelley Clark, USDA ARS, Salinas. This work is funded by the California Department of Agriculture, Specialty Crop Block Grant Program, and the California Leafy Greens Research Program as grant awards to Dr. Steve Klosterman, Dr. Ali Mantazar, and Dr. Alex Putman.
