Enrollment Steps for New and Returning Volunteers
In 4-H, true leaders aren't born, they're grown. As a volunteer, you are helping to grow the skills of 4-H youth to become our future leaders.
NEW Volunteer Appointment Process
Welcome to the Imperial County 4-H Youth Development Program!
We look forward to you becoming a 4-H Adult Volunteer. The 4-H Youth Development Program is a unique educational program where adults work side by side with youth in a mentoring capacity. Please read the instructions below to begin your 4-H Adult Volunteer orientation process.
Before proceeding, if you are new to the 4-H program and have not been in contact with a club in your area, contact the 4-H Office at 442-265-7700 for information on how to join.
4-H volunteer applications are reviewed and appointed annually by the County Director. Adult applicants must complete the following once for as long as they are continuously enrolled. If there is a gap in enrollment, these steps must be repeated.
*Complete the online 4-H Volunteer Interest Survey in English or Spanish: 4-H Volunteer Interest Survey
*Enroll in the 4-H Enrollment system. Enrollment for adults is the same for youth (instruction Tips: ZSuite MemberVolunteer Enrollment Tip-sheet 6.12.23 )except that you will need to take a couple of additional steps that help us to ensure a safe, healthy learning environment for youth in our program.
*Successfully clear a California Department of Justice Background check. Live Scan Instructions 24-25
*All new 4-H volunteers are required to take the New Volunteer Training online courses in the eXtension system before they become approved as volunteers. Once logged in, click 4-H & Youth, then 4-H:California, scroll down and click "2024-2025 California New Volunteer Course-English" and use enrollment key (contact club leader for key) and proceed with course.

Once all the above has been completed, the application is reviewed by the County Director. If approved, notification will be sent to your club's community leader, if there are any limitations or if not approved the County Director will send a letter stating the reason.
